If Acer managed to pump out two separate Windows 8 tablets right at the beginning of Computex 2012, Asus had the foresight to create just a single tablet that came with two separate displays instead. Officially dubbed the Asus Taichi, this dual-display wielding beauty packs back-to-back IPS screens and is meant to run Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 operating system. It basically offers a new twist to the whole convertible touchscreen notebook idea. According to Asus, “With a touchscreen on the outside of the lid, the Taichi opens up a whole host of new mobile possibilities as it plays the role of both notebook and tablet.” And you can probably imagine how much fun can be had with a device that has two screens which can be used separately without interfering with one another.
The Asus Taichi packs a main 13.3-inch screen and a secondary 11.6-inch screen on its lid. If you open it up, it looks just like an ordinary Asus ZenBook, complete with full-size keyboard and multi-touch trackpad. And when closed, it can be used as a regular Windows 8 tablet, complete with full stylus support to navigate the Metro UI.
Inside the Asus Taichi, you’ll find 3rd-gen Core i7 processors from Intel and Solid State Disk drives for storage. There is no info yet on the included battery as of the moment, but it has to be a high-capacity one for sure or else you won’t be able to use it much with its two built-in screens. Don’t expect to see the Asus Taichi come out until much later this year, though.
